Popular Post Chestnut
A friend of mine asked me to make him a bathroom vanity a while ago and it fell through the planning cracks. After finishing the dining chairs i figured it was time to get it done. It's a very simple cabinet with 6 drawers and a tall linen cabinet with a large door. To keep costs low I did a simple dado with brads for the drawers. The casework was brads and glue as well because the casework is quite simple and i could easily hide the nails. The look my friend wanted as a very minimal modern look so I decided to use cherry veneer ply for the doors and drawer fronts. Unfortunately I only had 1/2" ply so i had to do some interesting tricks with the hinges and pulls to make them work out but I got it all figured out. I don't remember why it was decided to have 3 drawers but that's what we went with. Due to only have 3 drawers the drawers were quite deep. I figured this wasn't very useable in the long run and had been wanting to try divided drawers. So i took a video marc put our a while ago about doubling drawer space and modified it a bit. I made the drawers with a groove around the top. With this i could make a 2nd drawer with the bottom larger than the drawer that would ride in the groove/dado and alow it to slide back and make the drawers more accessible. The top drawers are solid wood (because i ran out of ply and couldn't go get any more). I fasten them i used screws counter sunk and plugged. The one remaining item that was new for me was to make a slim flush pull for the taller door. There were complicated reasons for this that are complicated and resulted from me using 1/2" ply. Finished construction. All of the doors and drawers came from 1 sheet of ply so a lot of the grain on the fronts tied really well and a lot of the grain patterns are similar. Installed, due to plumbing issues and other issues the gap between the taller unit and the lower unit is larger than i wanted it to be. There was nothing that I could do about this. Also the gap between the tall unit and the wall to the right was larger than I wanted but when you are building for a unity and the spot it's sitting in is offsite this happens. I could have made trim to close the gaps a bit but that's something that is difficult to figure out offsite as well. So i asked my friend if that was something he wanted me to figure out and install later or if he was ok with it. He said the gaps were a non issue and that he was fine with them as-is. I told him he was free to change his mind and if in 1 week or 1 year he wanted it trimmed out I'd be happy to do that.
drzaius
The vanity looks great, but that off center mirror & light kinda ruin the look of the finished installation. Either they should have been centered or the top left drawer sacrificed & the sink offset to be centered under the mirror/light.

Yes he is getting a new mirror and will be doing something different with the light. The previous setup was a pedestal that was crammed against the door. It worked ok for a single guy but with 2 people, one female, more space between the sink and door are needed. I have no control over the light and mirror or the placement of the sink he wanted.
