Veneering guidance

Recommended Posts

Hello, I recently posted asking about bandaging some cut through on cherry ply. Well I tried to correct it w/ a patch and long story short have made things much worse. Unfortunately I already applied finish to the piece. So my new plan is to contact cement a new piece of veneer over the entire top and finish that. So I have a few questions as to how to proceed. I plan to use contact cement from an aerosol can. Can I apply the contact cement over the existing finish(pre cat lacquer)? Should I sand it? Or strip it all off? After the new piece is all on I've read that I have to wait a few days before I can refinish the piece? Any help is much appreciated I am in too deep on this. Thank you.
