Popular Post Tom King
Last night we were invited to dinner by the second owners of one of the houses I built. This is the one with a copper roof and a complete wrap around porch. It still looks like it did when I built it. I took this inside picture last night. The main room is 22x44 and I think the peak of the cathedral ceiling is 23'. The only steel in the structure is in the cantilever balcony floor. The floor still has the MCU finish I put on it. Like all my later houses, I did everything myself with two unskilled illiterate helpers.
legenddc
Is there a way we can be alerted if one of your former houses goes up for sale? The lottery is getting up there and I might be able to afford one if I win.
Tom King
I never hear about it beforehand. So far, they sell in one day. The ceiling in that picture looks a little strange. The wide angle distortion changes angles. The upside down "V" in the peak is really horizontal. The ridge of the gable dormer on the lake side continues on through the back side of the house and is actually part of the peak of the middle dormer of the three in the picture on the road side. It's supported by a bearing wall which is the wall in the great room that the old piano is on and the wall on the other side of the hall behind that wall. There is a view of the lake through that gable dormer from the balcony in front of the bedrooms upstairs. Like all my spec houses, I designed it because they need two fronts, which can't be found in a book of plans. One front for the lake side, and one for the road side.
