franzxkafka
I have side by side Victorian 10' exterior walnut doors with great detail that have weathered. I sanded one door (60, 120, 150 grit) to remove all old finish and to remove greyed out damage. One door remains with old finish and is generally a uniform light color (with greyed out water/sun damage on horizontals and lower area). When I put thinner on sanded door to approximate finish color, it looks really dark and grey, some boards totally different color. I don't think that doors were treated or stained last time. Will the color differences work out in time/sun or how can I adjust? Also, what are your thoughts on Pettit's 1015 Captains varnish. Will that "traditional amber color" affect the final finish like I want? Franz
Don Z.
Captain's Varnish has a good reputation... but I really like Epifanes. How it will affect the color, though, is an open question.
