klousiajp@gmail.com
I'm curious to know everyone's go to method for securing tops to their projects? Dadoes, screws, s-clips, dowels? I know that every project/design is different and calls for some different method, but is there some joint you keep using for the challenge, the asthetics, the strength, or the simplicity? klousiajp@gmail.com
Darn, I was pretty sure I created this in the Joinery & Construction section. Feel free to move it.
PaulMarcel
All moved I guess attaching the top depends on the project. I've used figure-8 attachments and sliding dovetails.
Rick LoDico
Likewise with the figure eight clips. I usually reach for them if the project will take them.
klousiajp@gmail.com
Two votes for the figure-8s. I'm a bit surprised by that, though I'm not sure why. I guess I always thought that those clips would be shunned by woodworkers everywhere as too Ikea like.
woodhack
Figure 8's. It seems to be the most secure way while still allowing for wood movement.
rivendale34
I've used the figure 8 and s-clips the most just depends on the project. I don't know why, but I always use the 8's on the "nicer" stuff, the s'clips on the utilitarian stuff (like shop furniture). Maybe it's because I don't want to have to make that extra groove on anything I consider a nice piece. However, in my experience they both hold up ver well... I've definitely abused the workbench and couple shop cabinets with the s-clips and have had no issues at all. Plus the s-clips are a lot cheaper.
