Jack Medure
Can I sand in the danish oil to help fill the pores? I have a solid oak top I'm making a coffe table with, I plan on using wipe on Polly and sanding each coat. But can I do the same with the Danish oil the start filling from the beginning? Godet
I often wet sand my projects after the first coat of Danish Oil for just this reason. I've seen Marc do it too, but I can't remember which video/project. I usually use some 600 grit wet/dry paper on the wet surface first using a tight circular pattern and then going carefully with the grain for a few strokes. Let that sit as you would a normal first coat of Danish Oil and then wipe off...
Jack Medure
That's what I was thinking. If I do my first wet coat at 320 think it will be ok. I will be following up with the top Coates at 600, 800 an 1000 for the final. It's my normal finish but u usually only do with the wipe on Polly. thewoodwhisperer
Yeah it works pretty well. The oil content in the Danish oil keeps the solution "wet" long enough for you to work the slurry into the grain. So if I'm doing a more "natural" pore fill, danish oil is my go-to choice.
