DennisL
I'm in the middle of building a frame out of red oak for a friend. She said she wants a rustic look, and the oak looks good for that, but I have no idea what sort of finish to use. Any advise would be awesome, and pictures to show her would be even better. DennisL
Also I wouldn't mind an excuse to buy a spray gun if it would be a good way to go.
Rapid Roger
For the "rustic" look, I wouldn't put a finish on it at all. Sand it until it is fairly smooth (no splinters) and call it good. Picture frames don't get handled a lot and some times can distract form the picture it surrounds. I have made frames from old barn wood without any finish and I think they are beautiful. Just my opinion. Rog
dwacker
Personally i would buy the spray gun because you looking for an excuse. Spray the thing and if you dont like it sand it off. Now you got a new spray gun and dont have to feel bad.
JMadson Custom Wood
You could also use a tinted wax. The tint will accent the grain.
