rodger.
Is this a solid choice for a wooden countertop? I have also heard of people mixing mineral oil with beeswax, and then applying. Anybody try this? Also, where would a person purchase mineral oil?

Anybody try this? Also, where would a person purchase mineral oil? I've used it before, and it's a piece of cake. The only thing is that - being an oil - it takes a while to dry. Mineral oil can be found in almost any drugstore. Look in the laxative section. Jonathan ===================================
Bob Rozaieski
Mineral oil is commonly used on cutting boards. As mentioned, you can find it called butcher block oil but if you go to the drug store and buy it as a laxative it's much cheaper. One thing to keep in mind about mineral oil though is that it is a non drying oil. It will never dry. Instead, it will get wiped away gradually as the counter is continually cleaned and wiped down. So it will need to be reapplied frequently to keep things protected.

Mineral oil will dry to the touch - which will take a while - but it never cures. You will reapply as needed. jHop
Will it dry out quicker when exposed to things like hot pots or cups of coffee? Or is it a uniform thing?
HoboMonk
Will it dry out quicker when exposed to things like hot pots or cups of coffee? Or is it a uniform thing? Mineral oil neither dries nor cures. However, it will soak in to the wood, evaporate and can be rubbed off. Heat can make it evaporate quicker. Blessings.
