jersey mike
Still new to Jersey. From Poughkeepsie, NY and have most of my tools there still Haven't done any work yet and have no idea where to go to buy decent wood around here. If you have any suggestions, I'm a sponge for knowledge (in theory)
rgarofalo
Try Boards and beams in Fairfield They always treated me well and are fine with small orders. Still new to Jersey. DannyBoy
Boards and Beams is the best around here. If you speak directly with Steve and show up with cash he'll take care of you. I have been purchasing from him since before he opened up the warehouse in Fairfield. He has always accomodated me and let me pick through the piles for the good stuff. Keep your eye on Craigs List too, guys are always getting rid of hardwoods at relatively good prices. http://www.woodboardsandbeams.com/

Very personable people working there. They were very helpful and patient with this here newbie and that is why I'll be going back.
marsbar
Thanks for the info on Boards and Beams. I have lived in Clifton for over 50 years and didn't know that place existed! I used to drive up to Condons Lumber in White Plains, NY for "special" lumber.

Barngirl
Not sure what type of wood you are looking for but there's a pretty new sawmill over in Irvington, NJ. http://www.realantiquewood.com They deal mostly in reclaimed lumber and have wood slabs.. give them a shot - heard they are reeally cool over there!
