A picture is worth a thousand words. It was fortuitous discovery that 2" PVC electrical conduit is a.) compatible with 2" PVC DWV pipe and b.) pretty close to compatible with the inlet for my shop vac and the outlet for the Dust Deputy. The caddy itself is somewhat adjustable in case I get a new shop vac in the future.

Airflow is everything in dust collection. (i.e. How much air can your motor move? How much resistance does the airflow face between tool and collector?) Switching from a 6' run of corrugated plastic to a short, gentle curve of smooth PVC certainly doesn't hurt.

So says the theory, and I don't dispute it. But I'm wondering if the change made a noticeable practical difference.

Indeed. It may well be a 97% versus 98% question and I don't pretend to have the means or the inclination to do a controlled, scientific test.

At the very least, it's one less hose to schlep, one less hose to trip over, one less hose to put back.

Nice job Rob. That's a project you will never regret building. If the electrical sweep ever leaks, just silicone it.

I found my DC at a flea market and that's one of the best purchases I've ever made. I used to have a haze of dust in the air. No more. My dad passed away 7 years ago from lung complications and now I will do all I can to not go that way. I like exotic woods and they have toxins that no one needs to breathe. I think, good dust collection is a must in woodworking. My goal is to get a really nice set up and make it like

There are a couple parts to it but anyone can get a lot of good ideas from his shop.
