Jfitz
I am very excited to try out some new wood types. I picked up some small amounts of zebrawood, jatoba, peruvian walnut and bubinga for some quick projects for my wife and daughter. I also got some great curly and quilted maple - not new to me but two of my favorites and always beautiful. I'm thinking of pairing the zebra wood with walnut, and the maples with either bubinga or jatoba. Thoughts? I am also going to pick up some dye to pop the grain on the maple, a first for me. Looking forward to it.
tdale51@yahoo.com
I always thought curly and quilted were two different names for the same thing. Is this not the case?
Jfitz
They are marketed - and priced - differently. The quilted grain pattern is definitely more wild.

SeanWalker
I would love to try the zebrawood, but it's just too expensive around here. Let us know what you think about it!
Jfitz
Sean - where is "here"? I got 4/4 for about $14/bf. It's actually. 1 1/8" thick so it's a generous cut.
SeanWalker
Kentucky. The only place to get it here is woodcraft which charges 24/bf for zebra wood. I guess I'm just spoiled by my sawmill prices.
Mister Pants
Maple and jatoba are a nice visual contrast. I've made a few items (the ubiquitous cutting board, a small music box) with that combination.
rodger.
I just built my first project out of peruvian walnut. It was a joy to work with.
