ReLMAustin
I needed a small wooden mallet for adjusting planes so I put one together. The head is red oak and the handle is maple. I connected the two with a wedged thru tenon. I've tried doing wedged tenons a couple of times, and I am getting better but I still had trouble. I grossly overestimated how much the tenon would widen. So there is a gap around the tenon where I had filed a wide angle in the mortis. All the curves around the head and handle were done with just a rasp and sandpaper. I applied a couple of coats of Danish oil for a finish. duckkisser
you might want to put some epoxy in the space where the handle is to help hold it in place. especialy that size gap
Egraff
Nice project. I agree.... why don't you try to fill that with something? Take your pick of filler. Here's a crazy suggestion: fill the gap however you want. Make it ugly! Then, you can inlay a piece of wood over all the ugliness to cover everything up! Or..... just fill it. <smile> - EG
Ironman50
Simple but really useful project with that right size for adjusting smaller stuff. Keep it up!
