Joost Lindenborn
Sorry for my English, I am from Holland. Question, when do you know your sawblade is dull? joost
Tpt life
This is an experience issue, but generally you should not need to push the stock you are cutting. The same is true for a handheld saw. You should not need to push it. This is not always completely accurate if you are rough cutting boards that bind or catch. These situations are not best but may not indicate your saw is dull. A drifting cut that does not stay square to the saw arbor also can tell you your blade is dull. Welcome to the forum! wtnhighlander
Also, some of the same symptoms occur when the blade is dirty, the teeth being coated with pitch from the wood. There are many products made for cleaning saw blades, but hot soapy water works quite well. A little scrubbing may save you the cost of sharpening or replacing the blade. And welcome, glad to have you join us!
wdwerker
Drag the center of a fingernail across a tooth of the saw blade ( unplugged or removed) .If you get a curling shaving the blade is sharp, if you get crumbly dust it's dull. Cleaning your blades often will extend the life of each sharpening. I just use commercially available blade cleaner and a stiff plastic bristled brush. Follow the directions on the spray bottle. Wear gloves .
Derek
It cuts slower. I get a lot of chip out and burning of stock. When my blades are dull. Cleaning it might help though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
