I think he meant he would've avoided the cross grain joint, gluing up everything with the grain running in the same direction and it would've ended up looking just the same.

But your design pushes less bacteria in between the wood fibers each time you cut meat on your board, because you're cutting across the grain most of the time, that's why you're still alive and well !!! :D:D
