guitar10000
Hello , I was wondering what part of the drawers I need to finish. I used PolyAcrylic for the rest of the dresser and faces of the drawers , but should I do the sides / back / bottoms / inside ?? Thanks
AceHoleInOne
I would give the entire drawer a light coat of your water-based finish. If your drawer front has its last coat of finish applied and has cured a few days. Go ahead and tape it off with paper and spray your drawers. Everyone has an opinion on this so here is mine. I apply a finish to drawers because it hardens the wood and seals. Helps to protect the wood of simple abrasions. Drawers that have finish inside are easier to clean and should you need to wipe out with a damp cloth, helps control stains if something were to leak or spill. Keeps the wood looking clean. -Ace-

If I'm using quarter sawn Oak for the drawer boxes which is what I normally do, I'll give the inside a few thin coats of poly to seal them and like you say it helps keep them from staining etc. On the outside I often give them a few coats of Carnorba wax (I think that's how it's spelt) in turps then when fully dried out I'll buff them well. Helps male them slide smoothly as well. Carnorba is much harder than bees wax and doesn't stick like bees wax either. Pete
