jwturner422
Hello, This is somewhat embarrassing, but I have a hall table that I built a little over a year ago that I started finishing and never completed. Using Marc's simple varnish process, I applied three coats of Arm-R-Seal gloss over an eight day period and then life got in the way. I never put the last coat on which I'd like to be a semi-gloss. This is the first project I've ever built and attempted to finish. So my question is, can I just pick up from where I left off or do I need to take some other steps prior to applying the last coat? Thanks in advance for your advice. --Joel
Tpt life
Over a fully cured finish, I would scuff sand to aid mechanical bond. Good luck. PS. I would be anal about solvent wiping to be rid of all finger oils etc.
wdwerker
Scuff Sand with 240 or 320 grit. Clean carefully like C S mentioned above .
jwturner422
Thanks to both of you. Moving forward, would you recommend 2 more coats rather than just the final coat? I'm thinking one full strength coast after scuff sanding and then a final coat diluted per Marc's finishing advice.
Tpt life
The final finish is an attempt to knock down gloss? The schedule will come out of your personal preference. It certainly should not hurt anything to follow Marc' recommendation.
dwacker
Almost all finishes have a recoat time limit. Once you go past this limit the chemical resistance will prevent even the same finish from adhering. Id call GF and ask them if this finish has a limit.
