Jose Prado
I'm making sashes for double hung window for my home. I purchased a reversible routerbit set from whiteside (http://www.amazon.com/Whiteside-6050-Window-Cutting-Diameter/dp/B000HRNBIE). Having difficulty: Do I use the washers between the bearing and the cutters in the stile mode? Thanks in advance!
PaulMarcel
Hi, José, That's an interesting bit set. Not having any experience with that bit, usually you use a washer between bearings and the cutters if there is no stop collar (a ring with a tiny set screw to lock it to the shaft). I'm surprised Whiteside doesn't have complete instructions on that so I'm going by the picture in the Amazon page. I assume you know to use a coping sled with a backer or at least a big backer when pushing through the end grain. Actually, do the end-grain profiling before the long-grain profiling, especially on the mullions. Searching around for instructions turned up pretty dry. Have to say I'm disappointed with Whiteside's site. Their PDF catalog (page 30) has a better picture than the Amazon page, but not by much. But, yes, washer between bearing and cutters
