treesner
Hey I have a couple of random gouges and would like to have a nice array that'll cover most situations I run into. Pfeil a are around 35 $ a gouge do you think it would be better to buy 5-6 individual ones or is there a set you'd recommend? TerryMcK
The trouble with sets of anything is there will always be a few you never ever use. Best to decide on what you actually want to do first, carving, turning, spoon carving, sculpting or so on then look at Pfeils website to work out what will suit your requirements. This starter set looks reasonable but again there might be some you don't use http://www.pfeiltools.com/en/products/sculping-tools/roll-case-with-8-tools-ro-8.html also remember to keep them razor sharp and keep a hone at the side of you to constantly sharpen when carving.
Stephen Prunier
Having done it both ways, I would stick with individual tools. Check out Mary May, and Chris Pye for ideas on which ones to start with.
