BonPacific
I'm starting to get into pen making. I have a Legacy pen mill, which works on the wood, but leaves an annoying raised ring of brass. I'm using 7mm pen kits, and I've noticed reviews on a few more expensive mills that mention a problem with 7mm barrels. Does anyone have a pen mill they like that reliably squares the end of 7mm pen kits?
Barron
I use The Whiteside mill and have good luck with it. If you want, you can square up the ends on a disk sander.
Marmotjr
I use Penn states mill, and do occasionally get a raised edge on the brass. I just use a exacto knife to clean it up, or I guess a small handheld deburring tool would work too. I prefer a mill, but like Barron said, a lot of people prefer a disc sander. Just use a square jig and sand the blank down till the brass is exposed and shiny. You still might have to deburr though.
Jfitz
I've used both. I started with a pen mill, but have transitioned to using a disc sander which I think I like more. Easier set up, easier minute adjustments, and a great result IMO.
