Meatwad
So I've got this idea to run a 3-pronged electrical plug cable to another outlet embedded in a table. It's not really my idea because I saw it in a furniture store. It's the new thing now to put electrical outlets in nightstands so you can easily charge your electrical devices. But I have no electrical experience so I need some help not killing myself I've youtubed several videos but if anyone here has some advice or instruction for me I'd feel safer. Jfitz
I was thinking of doing something similar to my son's nightstand - for the same reason - and I think I'm just going to find a power strip with 4 or 6 outlets, and a nice long cord, and use that. Secure it to the drawer and let him deal with what gets plugged in where.
Vyrolan
Agreed with @Jfitz...just use a power strip... If you want a bit fancier without doing anything complicated with the electrical stuff, do a nice cutout to hold something like this thing so it's nicely mounted...then an extension cord behind it that runs to the wall. drzaius
You can get flush mount boxes that go in the table top with a door that lifts up to give access to the receptacles. They are quite expensive though. Power strip is cheapest & easiest. Or you could cut in an electrical box into the side or apron & install a duplex receptacle that has built in USB charging ports. Then tie a cord into the box to feed it.
Meatwad
@drzaius, putting an electrical box in the table is exactly what I had in mind. But having never done this before I just want to make sure I don't burn down my house. I am looking for some links , videos, or instructions. drzaius
Main thing is to make sure the front edge of the box is not recessed back from the surface of the wood. That & to have proper strain relief for the cord so it doesn't pull out of the box.
