WizardJ
Anyone have any knowledge or experience with This router table? I'm buying tools next week and was looking at this router table. I assume I could remove the router from the table and use it like any other, right? thanks
Vic
No, that looks to be a dedicated motor. Like when I use my PC 7518 in the router table, it's just the motor. I have a regular base for it.
Vic
Is this your first router purchase? Are you needing this router to be versatile? Combo kits are many times the way to go, if that is the case. Build a router table and buy a quality lift when you have the money.
WizardJ
yeah this will be my first router purchase. I was looking at a plunge router from HF for $90 but seen this and thought it might be nice to have the table capabilities too. I'll probably just stick with the plunge for $90. Thanks for the reply
Vic
Get opinions on the HF router first. My take on HF is that it makes sense for some purchases, but you have to be very careful what you buy there if it's got moving parts. You don't want to buy your first router twice. Ben H
I'm with Vic. HF has some jewels, and not so much. Typically, anything with a cord, falls in the not so much category (their are exceptions.) If your reasoning is that other routers such as PC, Bosch, DW, ect. are too expensive. What happened when your new HF router has play in the shank, burns up, or god forbid won't hold the bit tight. If money is tight (like it is with me) can you afford to buy a router twice? My local Woodcraft sent me an email the other day with 3HP Freud Router package on sale for 169.00. Just food for thought.
Rick LoDico
As others have said, don't buy anything with a motor from HF. Here's a couple reconditioned routers that will serve you much better. I've never had a problem with a recon. http://www.cpotools.com/factory-reconditioned-bosch-1617evs-46-2-25-hp-fixed-base-electronic-router/bshr1617evs-46,default,pd.html?start=3&cgid=bosch-reconditioned-routers http://www.amazon.com/Factory-Reconditioned-Porter-Cable-892R-4-Horsepower-Router/dp/B000HDEX8K/ref=sr_1_5?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1297609689&sr=1-
Mike M
I have that 3hp Freud router in my table and it has been great. Since it is a plunge router you don't need to purchase an additional lift mechanism. This router has depth control and spindle locks that can be reached through the base (the top of the table) so bit changes are not a problem. The only insert plate that was predrilled for this router was the one sold by Freud. Call their parts dept to buy it. All the others required me to drill the holes for the lift and lock. This was 2 years ago so there might be other plates now. BTW - I paid $200 on eBay when I bought it.
