Popular Post curlyoak
My neighbor wanted this bench for potting and general maintenance for her orchids. It costs more to use cedar and stainless screws, but the added cost is a bargain. If this table lives on a masonry floor it could last a lifetime. Many other wood species would fail. The weak point for longevity is the leg bottoms. If it stands in water frequently the legs will eventually rot. With a small piece of starboard I've killed the weak point. I like low maintenance. So I like outdoor cedar unfinished. It gets gray and not as pretty as a good varnish but I am not signing up for the extra work.

curlyoak
Starboard is high density poly available in sheets. vanity of sizes and color and thicknesses. Used in the marine industry. It will cut, route, drill and takes screws. With screws hole diameter needs exact for the pilot. It will not paint, glue or sand. Ive heard it can be welded together. If you made a rip from 1/2" stock 1/16" thick about a foot long, no human can break it. distort it, yes.
