rjp95h
Going through old stacks of wood, my son and I found this great little piece of cedar. After cutting it in half we got to wondering how it grew. It almost seems to bend at a 90 degree angle. Any ideas? the two half of the wood The outside of the wood
wtnhighlander
What we often call eastern red cedar is actuallya member of the juniper family. As such the young tree is quite flexible, and is often able to heal itself after some trauma bends and tears the wood fibers. This can sometimes result in a tree with severe deformities, but to me, that looks like a root section, perhaps a crotch where one root grew straight, with another wrapping around it.
Chestnut
That almost looks like the branch broke and then kept growing. The sapwood that is mixed in with the heart wood makes it look like it healed over the splintered break. Just a guess.
