nealaron
Hi everybody, My name is Neal. I have been working with wood for over 30 years now. I started off as a remodel carpenter and gradually moved into finish trim, built-ins and cabinetry. The last 20 years were spent as a firefighter here in Santa Cruz, doing carpentry on my days off. Now that I'm retired I want to follow my dreams and learn to do fine woodworking. I have always loved Krenov's work and his philosophy of woodworking. Now that I'm not working by the hour I think I'll be able to be more patient and focus on hand work and fine joinery. It's a paradigm shift that's taking more work than I anticipated, but I'm getting there. This website and Marc's podcasts have really helped me a lot. I haven't participated in any of the group builds yet, but I love the idea and will join in when the time is right. My current interest is in Mission style and japanese influenced furniture. I enjoy looking at a picture and designing my own piece around it. I've made a few end tables, lamps and stand alone cabinets. I'm currently planning a new dining table for my house. Any one from my area in the forum? I'd love to get together and trade ideas, etc.
