bradleyheathhays
Title says it all. One...is there any way to preserve the colors of rainbow poplar? and Two...how faded does rainbow poplar get when it's exposed to the sun?
wtnhighlander
I can't say about the 'rainbow' aspect in particular, but my experience is that poplar darkens and mellows over time, gradually rducing in contrast. The colors and patterns remain, but grow less vivid.
Chestnut
Avoid UV exposure. I've had some success prolonging wood color change by using spar varnish or varnish with UV inhibitors. It's not a guarantee it's just extending the color change. I have bright red boxelder that doesn't get a lick of sunlight and it's held it's color pretty well.
