Benvolio
Hello all My wife is getting into Decoupage (or something). This involves covering a box or something with bits of paper and sealing and adhering them with PVA. she's thinking about doing a table top, and obviously this will need a protective top-layer. I'm led to believe PVA has a bad reputation for things adhering to it. Does anyone have any suggestions?? Thanks Ben
PaulMarcel
You might try shellac over the whole découpage before putting the final top coat. A lot of découpage have a quasi-3D look to it with stacked layers or even some up off the surface. For that reason alone, I'd consider using a bar-top epoxy produce to encase it all to protect and maintain the 3D aspect. But, of course, get someone else's opinion on the shellac adhering to the PVA well... wouldn't want to epoxy it all then have it lift

AceHoleInOne
I'm with Paul on the bar top epoxy. Our friends did a bar top of golf stuff, old score cards, pictures and ball marking coins. Just encased epoxy, all there was to it. Been about 3 years now and still looks great! -Ace-
