Spencer Bates
I'm in the process of finishing a project and I'm using my new earlex 5500. I have already sanded down the first coat of finish because of this but I keep getting a weird splattering texture. I thought it might just flow out nice and even but it remains in the dry finish (oil based paint, thinned with acetone). I am wondering what I'm doing wrong... I'm trying to get a nice perfect surface but it isn't happening for me... Any thoughts?
dwacker
Sounds like mixing issues. What is the viscosity? Don
Spencer Bates
I just thinned a batch of it down about 15% and it runs through the viscosity cup in about 65 seconds. I have a 1mm needle as well as a 2.5mm. I was previously using the 1mm...
dwacker
The 5500 comes with a generic guideline sort of viscosity cup and it is pretty much useless. I would get yourself a real viscosity cup. The machine is really more so designed to spray a fence or outdoor furniture so getting a perfect finish is going to require that your finish is thinned just right. Their generic viscosity is not going to cut it if you're looking for a furniture smooth finish. Don
AceHoleInOne
Try the larger needle and nozzle. 1.0 is for thinner type finishes. -Ace-
dwacker
I asked a buddy about your viscosity cup. He says it fairly close to a ford #4. So at 65 you are way to thick. If its thinned down as far as you can go then you need a bigger needle. With a pressure cup you should be about 1.8-2.5 Don
chicks82
the 5500 does not like to spray thick material. it will orange peel on you almost every time. what kind of finish are you using?
