Chopcat
They are hard to get over in the uk. Can anyone share their experiences on which are the best to go for as I am looking for a better extraction system. CC
thewoodwhisperer
I think you'll find ClearVue, Oneida, and even Grizzly have some excellent units.
Beechwood Chip
If commercial cyclones are hard to get, maybe it's easier to build your own. Bill Pentz has plans and instructions for making one. Also, you can make a Thien separator very easily.
Jodavis
You can build one for for pretty cheap if you already have a regular dust collector I have a el cheapo 2hp bag unit that I converted. You need a large trash can at least 30 gallons with a lid. Must be round.. 2 4" 90 elbows A large cheap wok Some bendable scrap metal 4" inches longer than the width of the I'd of the trash can about an inch wide or so Foam tape Duct tape I'll post a picture of mine momentarily. Mine does not recycle the air it goes straight outside via a 6" dryer duct hose. I live in a neighborhood with a pretty strict hoa so if any dust accumulated outside I would get a letter pretty quick but it works very good and my next door neighbor thinks it's my dryer vent
Steven Reckner
I love the grizzly unit I have it was around $450 but it was 2 hp and moved an impressive 1700 cfm for my medium size shop it is a beast good luck
davestanton
Have a look at the 3 hp version of this unit, probably known as laguna or grizzly over there.
Chopcat
I think these look the same but look at the cost. £1,500 here and closer to £1,000 in OZ.
davestanton
Chopcat. The conversion rate is 1 pound equals 1.47 Australian dollars, so the price is close to the same.
Wood-butcher
Not sure if this helps. FWW annual tools and shops winter 2011/2012 has a great article on shop vacs, cyclones and dust collection systems. Try Oneida-air.com , rockler.com or woodcraft.com. Colorado Brian
I've got a Grizzly 3hp cyclone and love it. I have 6" steel mains to mostly 4" drops. I have it located about 30 feet from my table saw and it does a much better job than the harbor freight 2 hp collector I had sitting next to it. The steel pipe costs more than the cyclone! I had Penn State Industries do my layout. They charge about $100 and give you a $50.00 credit on the fittings and pipe and if you buy enough of it give you another discount and shave a hair off the freight.
