mds2
Wow. I bought my table saw used from a friend and it was missing the splitter. Guess what I'm looking for online right now. That guy is lucky he didnt lose a finger.
Jfitz
He is VERY lucky. I think the reason that he didn't lose one is because it was sort of "planned" - had he been using his normal technique, he most likely would have lost at least a finger, if not his hand. mikem
That is very scary. It is amazing he didn't loose that finger!
RalphKolva
Thank goodness he's fine and realizes what he did was not smart, I wouldn't intentionally do this even on a Sawstop. I am going to show this video to our students though, might as well make so good use of it. We had a student trying to be careful by using a push stick on a wide board, ~12", have the piece kickback on him. He picked the one tablesaw in the shop without a riving knife, had the push-stick close to the fence so as the board was exiting the blade, the twisting action pushed the board into the blade. Fortunately the kick back was fairly mild and no one got hurt, he was pretty shaken but no physical damage, except to the board. Took all the students back to the tablesaw and reviewed safety procedures and explained why the kickback happened, hopefully this is the last time we have a student have a board kickback. Like my Unisaw but another reason to relegate it to dado use and get myself that Sawstop!
42andrising
Hopefully this shows the dangers of showing the dangers of kickback to any would-be video producers out there... Glad he didn't get hurt. Everything happened so fast! If he had trouble finding the piece of wood imagine trying to find your finger! I saw a video demonstrating kickback with foam, but that didn't really strike fear and respect into me like this one did.
Bachambers
WOW...I could hardly watch...I actually rolled back in my chair from the computer to get more distance!
Screamer777
Yes, that was a close call. His "demostration" nearly ended in tradegy. Always use the spilter and blade guard. Period.
