Andrew Pritchard
What's the difference? I've not bought either before, I just want to be prepared for when I do. My local big box store (Kent Building supplies) has what it describes as birch shop grade ply, and oak veneer shop grade ply.
semmons23
I'm certainly no expert but shop grade is usual like D4 grade plywood meaning it has the worst faces possible. Cabinet grade will be A1,A2 or B2 so it will be much nicer. Letter grades on the front a,b,c or d and 1-4 on the back. Typically big box home improvement stuff will be warped and the veneer is very thin. Cabinet grade is much nicer. I'd like b2 or better but a1 is generally pretty expensive
dwacker
There is no such thing as cabinet grade. Its a marketing thing and nothing more. First look at the core this varies by manufacturer and then look at the face. The face is graded as suggested above. If the material is not graded on the shelf sticker then they really dont know what they have. Its up to you to decide if the product fits your needs.
