ReLMAustin
Hi Everyone, I just finished a plane making class at my local Woodcraft. Now, I have a beautiful and functional jack plane. I'm looking forward to building the next one.
mds2
Cool! I really like building planes too. I was actually digging through scraps last night to make my next one. Good job!
CessnaPilotBarry
Nice! Isn't it amazing how accurately you can adjust those things with a hammer? You'll get a lot of use out of that.
Ironman50
You did a fantastic job. Surely, you'll get better each time.
mds2
I put this together Sunday. I needed a jointer and now i have one. This one has a laid back hot rod sort of feel. Works pretty well. Still fine tuning. A photo posted by mikesnodgrass (@mds22) on Nov 6, 2012 at 6:27pm PST
ReLMAustin
Your hot rod jointer looks awesome! How long did you make it?
mds2
It ended up around 15". All made from scraps. If I make another one I'll move the blade forward a bit, but I have no complaints about it. Made from birdseye maple and padauk.
Mister Pants
Nice work guys! Made a few in the past, and plane making is fairly enjoyable. I wish I liked using wooden planes more though. I've made a few and still reach for my old #4 http://www.flashblack.us/images/_data/i/upload/2012/08/28/20120828134913-6c0def3c-me.jpg
mds2
Kevin are those made from just two pieces of wood? The body that is.
Mister Pants
Glue up for the original block, but otherwise yeah. One's bubinga, the other jatoba. The original block starts at about 3"x3"x12"
mds2
I think I have jointed every board in my shop. She spins like a top. A photo posted by mikesnodgrass (@mds22) on Nov 7, 2012 at 5:29pm PST
