woodworker13 Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 I've got a Jet 1000CFM Air Filtration System for small particle dust collection - the kind you would typically hang from the ceiling of your shop. However in my new shop space, the ceiling is fairly low, which means if I hang it up I risk smacking my head very easily on the corner of it. And I've got a steel I-beam running right down the center of the whole space, so it may interrupt the air flow from one side of the shop to another. I'm thinking of building a mobile unit to house the collector which would allow me to move it around closer to the tool that I'm using at any particular time. Does anyone have any thoughts as to whether or not this will work, whether or not it's a good idea, and if so, what kind of design I should consider for the mobile frame? Thanks! Quote
dwacker Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 I wouldn't put it down low. It will blow dust lying on the floor and on your machinery. Dust needs to be either collected in suspension up high or allowed to settle. Don Quote
woodworker13 Posted January 29, 2013 Author Report Posted January 29, 2013 So if I built a mobile rack that held the unit up high, say head level or above, that might work OK? Quote
Beechwood Chip Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 It doesn't need to be mobile. The air filter is for running after you leave the shop to clean the dust out of the air. It's not a machine specific tool (unless you have a very large shop). See Quote
rodger. Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 They sell mobile units. Here is an example, but this particular one is no longer sold.http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=30278&cat=1,42401,30278 Quote
duckkisser Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 i say build a clamp rack or tool shelf and put it on the top of the shelf. then if you want put the entire thing on wheels. if you run into the air filter its because you ran into the shelf. you can store parts, small tools, scrap wood, even have it functioning every day. have it so you can put a box planer on a shelf and then you can pass your lumber thorugh it. wdwerker Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 I got an old projector cart like they used in high school . 3 shelves , metal corner posts and 4 casters. We keep tool cases on the bottom, glue ,screws and fillers in the middle and nail guns on top, but it would be perfect for holding your air filter! Quote
