minorhero
Know where I can get a 12 year old Unisaw with 2 hp motor, Biesemeyer fence, Excalibur blade guard for $1,000. Haven't seen! Any thoughts? Depends a lot on the condition of the saw. I would say that is the going rate for that saw, meaning that is neither a really good price or a really bad price. I personally prefer much older equipment but that is my preference. For 1000 dollars on that saw I would want it to be "plug and play" meaning it needs no work done at all. I would not want to see any rust at all on the table and a bare minimum of blemishes. I would expect the bearings to be in good condition and personally I would want either the motor to be single phase or for it to come with a VFD. If the table was rusty, or the fence needed reconditioning, or the bearings needed replacing or the seller wouldn't let you push wood through the saw or any other little thing wrong then it would be too much. Personally I wouldn't pay that much for a used unisaw, but again I also don't mind waiting 6 months for the right tool at the price to come along. Your mileage may vary. Germain
I have observed the price for used Unisaws going steadily down since the economy tanked. Cabinet shops are going belly-up left and right. When they clear out their tools, there's typically at least one Unisaw for sale. I've seen good examples for $800 on craigslist. The 3-phase models are even less expensive because they require a phase converter or another motor for home shop use. If you don't mind the extra hassle, it's worth it. You can always order a very nice 220V motor from Grizzly. Be careful you accidentally don't buy the Delta Hybrid saw. They look similar and I've seen many examples listed as "Unisaw" in ads when that's not really the case. I think a real Unisaw should have at least a 3HP motor and probably wired to 220V. If it's got a smaller motor and a 110 cable, it might be the hybrid saw. The type of fence will also affect the price. People seem to prefer the Biesmeyer fence over the Unifece. So, you'll likely have to pony up a few extra bucks for the Bies. Personally, I think the Unifence is just fine. If the saw has outfeed tables or a mobile base, of course, this also will boost the price a bit. I would recommend checking craigslist regularly to get a feel for the prices in your area.
