Matt B
I am trying to mimic this finish from a pottery barn console table and can't seem to get it right! I've been using different combinations of GF's dye stain, but it appears to me that multiple stains are being used to build the color in layers rather than applying one. I almost wonder if it's stained and sealed, followed by several applications of different colored glaze. I'm not sure though.. Any ideas are greatly appreciated! I have more detailed pics if needed

Guest
those distressed wood finishes are hard to replicate. But yes, a base of a dye stain, a seal coat, and a glaze coat of a pigment stain might do it. Looks like a golden brown base and a reddish brown glaze. i don't see much sheen or color in the top coat so a water base top coat might be the way to go. Some of the color variation is coming from the rough texture of the wood. The rougher parts will absorb more stain.
G S Haydon
Matt, looks like very rustic pine with some water based stain. The hard thing when matching up is trialing all the stains, so tough to get right.
Indy Cindy
Another technique to add to the mix is sanding. Lightly sand areas you want lighter or want to reveal a stain color underneath it if you have layered stains. Lots of opportunity to play around with it until you get something you like. Keggers
The boards look like someone took rough lumber and skip planed it and then lightly sanded. Then applied some type of stain.
Tpt life
Agreed, looks like one color stain on a half prepped board.
