Autorotate
I know I have to tape off areas where glue will be applied If I pre finish before glue up but what about If I pre stain before glue up, do I have to tape off the glue surface or will glue still work on stained surfaces? Thanks
wdwerker
Not well at all. Some guys prefinished the panel before glue up but I wouldn't go any farther than that.
Keggers
If it were me, I'd play it safe and tape off the area not to be stained. Your going to have to do it anyway so why not before staining?
Autorotate
I was thinking of pre staining, assembling the piece then spray finish on it. just not sure if the glue will hold if there is stain on it.
..Kev
Use blue tape on the glue joints.. Then you know for sure.
Lee Bussy
I'd never even thought about doing this.
Coop
OP, there seems to be a lot of IF'S here and I've wondered the same. Would be great if you were the Ginny pig here and let us know how it worked out?
Autorotate
Great Idea Cooper Im going to do some test samples. One with stain, one with dye, and one with bare wood and see how they hold up.
