sbarton22
Yesterday, I was making a pepper mill and was drilling out the core on the lathe. I caught some kind of crazy catch and the tail stock started spinning until it unwound completely and jammed, bring the head to a halt. When I undid that mess, I found that it was taking a ton more effort to advance the tail stock than normally. And after a bit I noticed it was sticking, only a touch... maybe 1/16" at a time. I don't really understand how the tail stock works to try to attempt some kind of maintenance on it. There is a set screw on the crank, but removing that didn't yield any results. I have a Jet 12/20vs if that helps. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
duckkisser
you might have ground a channel in the steel of you tail stock dont know with out seeing it but if thats the case the sticking might be the ground up steel packing in and jaming up the works. im realy the last person on machine repair but thats what poped to mind right away.
