Guillaume Breton
Hello all. I recently bought my 1st lathe, its a midi lathe and I really like it. I made a stand for it and I'll fill the legs with sand to make it heavier pretty soon. I bought a chuck for it, but all I have are a couple cheap turning tools. I don't have any bowl gauges and my roughing gouge is very cheap and small. --------- all that said, if any of you has some turning tools you don't need anymore, preferably in Canada (Québec) even though they are at the end of their life etc, contact me I could be very interested ! Can't wait to put that to good use ! Tyvm everyone !
duckkisser
i know it seems like the tools are expensive but if you buy good quality steel its worth it. you can temper and grind your own tools like skew, scrapers, ect... i would sugest that you only buy gouges and make alot of your own tools at home for instance here is a tool that has a carbide insert on the tip. http://kurthertzog.com/articles/carbidetool/carbidetool.htm parting tool http://www.wkfinetools.com/tmaking/art/partingTool/partingTool.asp here is a bunch of turning information you might find helpful. BEESWAX WOOD FINISH (for bare wood) 1 pound beeswax 1 pint turpentine (odorless, if you can find it) 1 pint boiled linseed oil Melt wax. Remove wax from heat source, then stir in turpentine and oil. Before applying to bare wood, warm the mixture to achieve better penetration. Apply with a soft cloth, let dry, then buff with a wool cloth. Old coats can be removed with an organic solvent such as turpentine. This can also be used on leather.
