Workofwood
Is it possible to change out just the motor on a delta 1 hp DC. the 1hp is just not adequate. I have a system with a cyclone and then the filter bag down into the final trash can. It has 4 inch piping all over the shop. The suction is pretty terrible, enough to such up the fine saw dust (not the really fine stuff), but it leaves a lot to be desired. Any suggestions? First I need to know if you can even buy a motor separate from the rest of the setup. I would rather not buy a whole new dust collector, just the main motor. wtnhighlander
Won't help the suction to just increase HP. Will only make it easier for the motor to drive the impeller. Need a bigger impeller (or maybe higher RPM, not sure that really helps) to move more air.
Brendon_t
Now what you are asking but posting an alternative, I've seen and heard many go straight from the cyclone to dumping outside. Given the huge restriction to the system the bag creates, it should definitely up the suction as well.
wtnhighlander
^^^ Yep, what Brendon says is true. Removing the restriction of a filter makes a huge difference.
Workofwood
So do you think my 1 hp delta is strong enough alone? I'll look at removing the filter bag, it would be easy enough with my setup.
wtnhighlander
The manufacturer is generally pretty good about correctly matching the motor to the impeller. If removing the filter doesn't do what you need, I would consider buying the popular 2hp collector from Harbor Freight over replacing the motor on your Delta. Then grab their discount coupon found everywhere, and they're quiet inexpensive. Take your savings and buy a Wynn filter to replace the cloth bag.
