Trip
OK, we'll worry about the topcoat later...My first recommendation is Flexner: Understanding Finishing: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1565235487?keywords=flexner understanding finishing&qid=1448853712&ref_=sr_1_1&s=books&sr=1-1Since you haven't done anything about that crack near the butterfly, I'm assuming you aren't going to fill cracks and the like? There also appears to be some tear-out -- we doing anything with that?Since you are working in Walnut and want a smooth finish, we've got to get into void/pore filling... That's going to be your first step... Assuming you are leaving cracks and tear-out... There's a three-part YouTube video that's pretty good:
rmartuszewski
Thanks for the videos. I am all for filling, and was thinking a clear filler. As for the tear out, no clue how to fix minus sanding the whole thing by hand. The tear out was from router bit in jig/sled to flatten the whole thing. I will watch the videos tonight and read up on the link.I am open for anything, just looking for the easiest/least maintenance high gloss finish. Willing to buy what is needed. And can go in any direction. And would love to fill the cracks, what is best? Epoxy resin?
beantobe
Aquacote is a clear great water based pore filler.
