John Anderson
i got the 7pc basic router kit set from whiteside today. these are my first quality router bits and they look great. they came with a clear waxy prtective layer over the carbide and i was wondering if anyone here has advice on how to get it off without damaging the carbide. i know i can take a utility knife and just slice it down the side but i dont know if there is some reason i should avoid this. Thanks and Merry Christmas my wood friends! John
Keggers
I use my finger and thumb nails to get it off. It comes of quite easily once you get it started. Merry Christmas to you as well.
John Anderson
thats what i thought about doing when i first looked at it, but then i thought it just looked like one of those things you hear horror stories about. i didnt want to lose any fingers on Christmas eve, or any day after that for that matter. thanks
knotscott
Am I the only one who's just chucks them into the router and spins them? What the force from the high RPM doesn't remove disappears pretty quickly when it hits a piece of wood.
Emmrys
I take them off being careful to keep them as intact as possible. Then slip them back over the bit for storage when I'm done. I also clean the bit before putting it away.
