Popular Post difalkner
This is something I came up with Saturday morning to make for one of our girls coming in for Thanksgiving. I drew this in CorelDraw, did the toolpath work in Fusion 360, and cut it on the CNC. Yes, I'm having a blast coming up with original designs and making trivets, of all things! LOL! The rock below the crosses was cut with two different small gouges. It took about 20 minutes to cut the front and about 10 minutes to cut the bottom inserts on the CNC and about 15 minutes to cut the rock faces by hand. It has one heavy coat of mineral oil and the two woods are Walnut and Maple. Enjoy! David
Coop
David, that’s kind of like a cutting board you would give to your wife or mom, too pretty to use.
difalkner
True, Coop, but you can set hot pots on this all day long and it will still look good. Cutting boards seem to suffer from use, even end grain boards. At least that's what I'll tell her... LOL! David
kyokahn
That's some very detailed carving. What CNC are you using?
difalkner
Thanks! It's the Saturn 2x4 prototype from Fine Line Automation. We bought the frame from Nate and I designed, sourced, and built the rest. Electronics and all. I did a build thread here but Photobucket hosed the photos. I might see if there's a way I can replace them with photos on the server here where they'll always be here. David

That would be cool. I'm in the process of making a 2' x 3' myself, from scratch. The info is scattered and often contradictory. Going with 8mm lead leadscrews and the higher torque nema 17s (2 on the y axis), simple cnc shield setup. Hopefully I'll be able to produce some quality work with it.
