00101
Ok, I'm going through a much needed tune up on my table saw and am now addressing a problem that I have discovered on the few occasions that I use my miter gauge, it moves side to side in its slot, enough that I can see movement on the fence of it. Also its runner is really short and is too small in every direction for the slot, if the fence isn't on the table the whole thing rocks considerably, around 3/4", which is a pain since I have to pause part way into the cut to get the miter gauge to actually fit for the rest of the cut. And the fence is really short as well, which can easily be fix with some plywood, but still is an annoyance. So my question is, would the cost of a good after market miter gauge be worth the gain over just making a new runner out of ply or mdf? Also, I don't know if this is standard (I don't think it is, but I may be wrong), but my track has to sets of tabs that reach over the track making it so that if the runner come up to the table it has to be cut such that it looks like a short T, if it isn't standard, do many gauges support this type of track? I'd also really rather not spend multiple hundreds of dollars on a gauge either so that may- will- narrow down my choices as well.
Beechwood Chip
The T-track is pretty standard. If you have an inexpensive saw, though, you may find that your miter slot is non-standard, and standard miter gauges and other accessories won't fit. If you don't already have a sled, I'd make one. That will solve a number of problems.
