Hammer5573
I just completed a cherry gun cabinet. I applied shellac for the finish. The wood has the typical “salmon” color which is typical with the cherry that I’ve worked with in the past. I know that the wood darkens as it ages and like the darker (wine-like) color. My question is; does applying furniture wax slow this darkening process because of its effect on sunlight...?
wtnhighlander
Check the eax container for mention of UV inhibitors. Cherry darkens from UV exposure, as well as chemical reaction. I doubt paste wax will inhibit UV any more than shellac.
Bombarde16
Realistically? Nah. The nuclear fireball in the sky laughs at your paste wax. Were it otherwise, people could use the stuff to save the color in woods such as padauk or purpleheart. Pictures of the finished cabinet?
