2 beams

Recommended Posts

Recently i noticed 2 huge beams approx 12" x 18" x 24' at a vacant lot near my house. I cant tell what the species is but i know i could rip them up and get some planks out of them. Im guessing they are doug fir but not sure. My wife knows the realator who is listing the house and she is going to ask for me. There was an old small ranch on this lot (before they split the lot in two and put up one Mcmansion) and i was told they moved the house there from another location and im thinking thats where they may have come from. I know they have been laying w/direct contact to the ground but i should still be able to get some good wood right? Thanks in advance for any opinions.

I would agree, I have even gotten my hands on some oak planks that were used for a long time as concrete forms and left outside!! I had to do a lot of lot of cleaning and belt sanding before I could plane it but beautiful wood! I also have gotten some old pine beams that were out of an old barn but sat outside for many yrs and once again beautiful!

Grab'em if they're available...if you get into them and they're trashed, you can always make firewood BUT, you could possibly stumble into a really nice piece of wood. Kinna like Christmas.
