georgepag
I am trying to clean my shop up so I can actually get back to doing some woodworking. I have a couple of old electric motors that I've had sitting around forever. Aside from the two in the photos I have one or two more. Before I sell them I'm wondering if they are the right size to make some power tools that I'd like. For example, three tools I'm interested in are a thickness drum sander, belt/disk sander and and oscillating drum sander. What do you think? Coop
Not meaning to sound sarcastic but, if you can sell those things, use the money to buy the equipment you mentioned.JMO
wtnhighlander
I would agree with @Coop, unless building shop machines is something you enjoy. I can't read the second nameplate, but the first appears to be 1/4 hp, a bit small for most things. A drum sander, if using one motor to drive the drum AND the conveyor, probably needs 3/4 hp or so to operate effectively. The motor RPM is a big factor, too. Adapting a random motor may require some odd pulleys or gears to get the speed where it needs to be.
