On forum 2.0, there was a guy named Kenneth Woodruff who also lived in an apartment and came up with some pretty ingenious ways to do woodworking in an apartment. His blog isn't as active as it was before (not sure where he's at; this reminds me to shake his tree), but if you look at older entries, you'll see a very nice planing bench you can collapse and tuck under a bed.
