The leather is done. These pictures didnt include the finish, they are a bit more shiny now and even with the finish.

also, i threw all the pieces on the buffet (missing the top still, i had to redo the finish on it, i had a planer mark i didnt notice untill the finish) just to see what it will kinda look like hehe

had to crank up the iso to be able to take the pict so its grany a lot.

i'll take better picts soon.

also, started to glue the leather to the buffet today, stressful step, even tho fish glue has a very long working time.

i didn't want to have any squeeze out to affect the leather, but i did. i had to disassemble the setup a couple times to clean with a damp rag and reassemble everything.

i will have some touching up to do. The only thing that i'll have to do next is the small molding that will go around the leather on the buffet.

So the body is pretty much completed

the glaze worked really well even though it was a lot of work. it does give the look of an older buffet.

this is it without the moldings all around the leather

speaking of molding, it took me a couple days just to figure out how to make these small ones.

I started by making a dado in the center of a small piece of wood. TO be sure the dado would be straight i made the opposite form on a solid piece of wood and clapmed it over the dado stack and pushed the wood into it so it would not move. Even if some pieces did bow after the initial cut, the grove made sure all these dados were perfect.

after that, i router the molding profile on each side of the small pieces, then i cut straight in the middle to make 2 pieces of molding from each small 9mmx20mm board.

then i adjusted all teh molding for every frame i will be covering. there is a lot ! so i made sure they all fit perfectly, micro adjustment, then i made sure all these pieces were staying together through the finishing process.

that'S where i'm at now. 1st coat = tung oil + pigment. 2nd coat is pour -n wipe. 3rd coat is some waterbased walnut juice (the glaze) 4th step is to steel wool everything leaving some darker spots in the cracks etc to age the wood a little. 5th step will be another coat or 2 of pour - n wipe THEN i'll be able to nail all these moldings in their spots and i'll be done !

i was hoping to do tyhat tomorrow, but they anouce like 10-12 inches of snow for tomorrow so my feeling is that the school will be closed. (and it was the last day before the hollidays!)

only other detail i could mention is how i attached the pannels in the door frame. i just nailed it into place with a couple nails all around the leather.

i'll have to decide how i keed these doors closed, need to make some stoppers for the drawers so they can't pull all the way out, and need to decide if i install these door handles i chose, not sure, they'd hide a lot of the details i made on that leather ! :)
