Moffat, two "f"s not three Two "F"'s and two "T"'s Moffatt I know a few people (turners) and read about people using Moffatt lighting and they all like them for task lighting. But WARNING buy the Lights with "Safety Shields", dust and wood shavings can start fires with the hot 100 watt bulb. But i guess that is true with any light without a shield/screen.

EdgewaterWW
Sunlight! my main Lathe is right in front of a window or at night my shop is well lit, if more light is needed I use a clamp light with a daylight CFL. cheap, clamps to the tail stock and when I knock it over the bulb is only a few dollars. http://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-75-Watt-Incandescent-Clamp-Light-HD-200PDQ/205139241?N=5yc1vZbm7i

In some other forum I read that some LEDs are not a wide beam of light and was more of a spot of light (only lighting part of the turning)
wtnhighlander
A lot of early LED fixtures were like that, casting a rather narrow beam. However, LED lighting technology is advancing by leaps and bounds. It is much easier to find LED lamps now that will cast a broad area of light. The great thing is the that LED color temperature is much closer to daylight, so what you see is sharper and colors are truer.
duckkisser
I only use it to light up the inside of turnings like deep boxes but when I have used it for my bowls it lights up the entire outside
