Fxguy
Hey everyone! I'm in the market for a descent belt / disc sander and would like some help on what to look for while searching for one. What are some things to look for and / or some reliable brands? Thanks! Tim
..Kev
I know when I bought my Grizzly, I thought I would use it all the time. Frankly, I rarely use it so, am glad I just bought the less expensive Grizzly model.
wdwerker
I really like my little Ridgid osselating belt sander. Not too expensive, can be used as a spindle sander too. No disc but great for smoothing out bandsawn curves. I also have a Jet 6" x 89" osselating belt sander that I bought to use on a recurring commercial order that I build several times a year. I am finding I use it for cleaning up saw marks and all sorts of rough cuts. It might be a bit big for your needs but I think Jet has a10% off sale going on right now! maybe they have a belt / disk machine on sale? Barron
The Rigid I have works well and like wdwerker said, handles a lot of tasks. OK dust collection as well. Home Depot carries them and they always seem to be "on sale."
Craig
What size of sander are you looking at and what type of tasks do you want to perform on the sander?
Fxguy
I went with the Porter Cable 4X8 Disc / Belt Sander. Has an 8" disc and a 4X36 Belt. So far I'm happy with it although I am going to change out the 80 grit belt that it came with for a 180 grit belt. I figure I can use the 80 Grit Disc for heavy sanding and then the belt for getting close to a finish sand on it.
