Tom Cancelleri
My lathe hasn't seen any action in a while. I had been making lots of Christmas themed stuff and one of my Jewish Friends asked me if if I could make any Chanukah themed stuff. I said I'm sure I could make a dreidel. Here's my first attempt, it spins like a champ, though wood burning with a butane micro torch isn't ideal, and my Hebrew freehand is terrible.
wtnhighlander
Cute! Do you do anything to make the point wear longer?
Tom Cancelleri
I didn't do anything to to tip. On a dreidel the tip it rounded, though it could be harded with fire.
wdwerker
You could soak the tip with CA or epoxy to harden it as well. Great idea to diversify your holiday creations.
duckkisser
if you use a sharpie and some rubbing alch you can make the color run and blend together but you have to be quick before it starts seting into the wood. when i was learning the skew made lots and lots of tiny tops with my students and i had them coloring the wood after it was all turned.
